Specific Matters for Discussion:
A. New Business
— ATV/UTV Routes in Akan Township – Brought to the board by a couple of Dayton residents for
discussion. Rossing said thinks the roads weren’t open because our roads are mostly gravel and we
wanted to prevent issues with the gravel stirring up. Rondeau thought we had some roads that were
opened at a meeting several years ago. Laeseke said that we had issues on some of the roads due to not
having enough guard railes on the side of the road. Maly said always will be certain liability. Motion by
Maly to open all Akan Township roads other than the lanes second by Meyer. Nay by Rossing. Motion
passed.
– Monthly road review – Rossing said Rolling Rock, road tube was large enough and road is 24 feet, 2 feet
wider than required. Road runoff was from adjourning road (Briarwood) not from Rolling Rock. Plenty of
road surface and the ditch was fixed from the runoff. Cones still in place, but bridge markers are coming.
Meyer drove Jim Town and was wash boarded, Kevin graded Jim Town and Town Line.
B. Old Business
– Shady bridge update & possible action– Grants are due soon. Rossing will call Scott from Jewell and
get an update.
– Kinney Lane update with action– Laeseke reached out to county highway and is waiting for information
from them to see if they know how we acquired Kinney Lane. Laeseke will email the property owners
letting them know we are still working on how we acquired Kinney Lane.
– Employee Handbook updates-Laeseke will put the updates together and bring to next meeting for the
board to review.
– Holding Tanks-Kevin said both tanks are leaking into one tank. Kevin thinks risers are not on correctly,
Meyer thought if we could take the risers off, fix, maybe we wouldn’t have leaking occur. Bid for paper
to call Meyer. Akan Township is seeking bids for replacement or repair of holding tanks at their town
hall.
Under specific matters for discussion:
Roads Report – See above for some updates. Also graded McMullen and Ken’s Lane. Need new tires for the Dodge.
Recycling Report – Another large garbage dumpster was delivered without request, currently is about half-full. Will let it finish filling
before company comes to pickup.
Buildings Report – See above on septic.
Ambulance Report – N/A
Fire Report – Still looking for a location for a future build.
Public comments and suggestions from residents of the town and other persons present. – Maggie has a box under her mailbox for taxes drop-off. The online portal to pay is currently not working for Akan Township, but should be soon.
The fee for an e-check is $1.50 don’t recommend paying by credit/debit with the fees being based on the amount paid and can get large. Dee Rutt mentioned Dayton Township has a nice summary of road requirements and right of roadway, trimming vegetation etc… on their site with state statutes listed as well.
Adjourned at 7:16 pm by Kathy Maly and Steve Meyer.
